- The new LP, due out February 19th, features contributions from John Cale and Colin Stetson.
The next Animal Collective album, titled Painting With, is coming out in February 2016 via Domino.
It'll be the US outfit's 11th album. Band members Noah Lennox (AKA Panda Bear), Brian Weitz (Geologist) and Dave Portner (Avey Tare) began trading demos between each other earlier this year—as Portner explains, "really short songs: no B.S, get in, get out material." They met in Asheville, North Carolina in the spring and put the songs together; the LP was then recorded at Hollywood's EastWest Studios.
Domino say Painting With relies heavily on polyrhythmic beats and modular synths, with references to cubism and Dadaism. It features contributions from Colin Stetson and Velvet Underground's John Cale, with Sonny DiPerri on engineering duties. The LP has three covers—one each for Panda Bear, Avey Tare and Geologist—all of which were painted by Brian DeGraw.
