In 1986 DMC created the yearly World DJ Championship giving birth to Turntablism, which has turned the record player into a musical instrument. On Saturday night there were three annual events - DMC/Technics World DJ Championship, Battle for World Supremacy and the Team Championship.
This event serves to highlight the best ‘turntabilists’ from around the world, with countries hosting their own national competitions and then sending the winners to compete with the best in London. Countries as far reaching as Japan, Australia and Canada all sent artists, whilst Nigeria’s DJ Humility who was due to compete was foiled at the last minute by being unable to obtain a VISA.
