Although development is planned for the Hackney Wick area, "realistically, it's going to be some years before these scruffy warehouse walls get knocked down."
Mick's Garage won't close its doors just yet.
The Hackney Wick warehouse venue will shut one day due to development planned before it opened, but Mick's Garage's owners have confirmed the final party is still far off.
"Realistically, it's going to be some years before these scruffy warehouse walls get knocked down," the Mick's Garage team says. "It is a fate that's been sewn into the venue since before the space became the warehouse of a brewery and subsequently an events space. But for the meantime, the only ball you'll see around these parts is our massive mirror ball."
The Mick's Garage warehouse houses four independent businesses—a place for beer, coffee and kombucha on weekdays and a DIY nightclub on weekends. This year, the venue will start its own party series called Club Mick's, as opposed to only serving external promoters.
Neighbouring venue Giant Steps closed in August under similar development circumstances. "We always knew our time here was temporary," the restaurant, bar and club's team said at the time.
