- Representing a largely internal affair, Pampa's 12th single release collects two sought-after remixes. Roster mainstays Die Vögel pen their ode to label mate Jimmy Tamborello's last album as Dntel, while Pampa co-founder Stefan 'Koze' Kozalla includes one of two reworks he's recently carried out on Matthew Herbert's 2001 LP, Bodily Functions.
Die Vögel embed a submerged bassline into "My Orphaned Son," the fourth track on Tamborello's opinion-dividing opus, but leave the distorted vocals and abstract jazz clatter more or less the way the were. Delivering the record's stronger cut, Koze converts Herbert's glitchy yet lounge-paced "It's Only" into a wistful wash of deep electronica. Over the course of eight minutes, a gentle clap ambles forward framed by a wall of humming bass, providing an aptly sombre backdrop for Dani Siciliano's soft yet stirring vocals. The press release heralds this remix as an "instant classic," and to be fair, it's not too bold a claim.
