- Anstascia D'Elene and Vivie-Ann Bakos's 2012 Kompakt debut, Lovers In Limbo, was born of what they described as a fascination with "the concept and practices of psychedelics." The loose, analogue spirit of that release is present as "No Place Like Gnome"'s expansive drums kick into life, which are later augmented by layered psychedelic howls and Oxia-like synths. With a dazed breakdown that could be an interlude from The KLF's Chill Out, the track is a superb development of the themes explored on Lovers In Limbo.
The same can be said of "Inward Vision," which sets off at a similarly considered yet floor-friendly pace and is built around a naggingly familiar vocal sample, warped synth flashes and clattering percussion. Both cuts are are highly evocative and uncannily tuneful, and left me hoping that these are just the first examples of many psychedelic explorations from Blond:ish.
