- Having been entrusted with their own sub-label, Ecstatic, by Kompakt, Anglo-Italian alt techno/shoegaze voyagers Walls drop two of their more dance floor-leaning compositions to date. The frazzled electro of "Urals" mixes up flanged instrumentation, Moroder synths and skittish snares. In its shamanic pursuit of a blissed-out state, it's reminiscent of James Holden's recent music.
There's certainly little that's blissed-out about "I Can't Give You Anything But Love," which, if anything, goes all-out to twist your melon. It's a dense thicket of jerky acid oscillations, with analogue synths screeching like bagpipes, augmented by feedback and animalistic roars. If you thought that Alessio Natalizia and Sam Willis seemed like nice guys, this might make you think twice.
