- Laurent Bovey's history with Cadenza dates back to 2005, since when the Swiss producer has released records both as Digitaline (with Gregorythyme) and more recently as Laps. Perhaps in an effort to draw a line under the decidedly minimalist approach of his former operations, his latest incarnation as Marlowe is sweeping techno with a titanium coating.
On "Moonshine Heater" Bovey constructs a bubbling groove buttressed by crunching claps and a pithy analogue refrain. He plumps for a darker strategy on "My Minds Mine," a track that's all searing synths with a flatulent acid riff. Old habits die hard, however: underneath you can still hear minimal-style tics and tremors. "Power Plant" is the closest Bovey comes to letting rip, a nimble 125 BPM roller that groans under the weight of motorbike-exhaust synths and a panting rhythm sporting a distinctly Kraftwerkian aesthetic.
