Mix Mup - Skip Intro

  • When you think of Mix Mup, Kassem Mosse, his frequent studio partner, tends to pop into your head. Lately, though, Lorenz Lindner has struck out on his own. Following his excellent After The Job EP on Hinge Finger in 2013, Skip Intro is another opportunity for Lindner to show what he's about. Skip Intro is on the more accessible end of the Trilogy Tapes spectrum, but these aren't straightforward club tracks by any means. The title track's drums tap, smack and thud any spare space. The drums by themselves are a treat, but a simple synth line lends the track a dazzling sense of authority. On "IE" the drums steal the show again; each new hit is a brief guest rather than a constant companion to the bass and putty-like vocal. The shorter tracks, "Sequoflec" and "Curtain Scene," are more introspective and full of detail. A saxophone that swings in halfway through "Curtain Scene" gives an otherwise downbeat track a little lift, and on "Sequoflec," sounds that would be gloomy in other hands become rousing.
