  • When visiting India for a musical residency, Beste Aydin was transfixed by the sound of Tibetan chanting in a mountain temple. The only thing she found comparable was a moment of ecstasy on the dance floor. ("It's techno. It's fucking techno. It's exactly the same feeling," she said.) That should tell you something about the way the Turkish artist approaches techno. Take "Let Someone Like Me," from her new EP. There's an unforgivingly hard kick drum all the way through, with distant, alluring instrumentation looping in the background. There's just enough melody to chew on. In a similar way, "Intoxicated Love" is blistering and heavy, but the snags in the groove make it funky. (It's a feeling the plainer "Enter Your House" could have used.) The lead cut is more illustrative of Aydin's skills. "How Do You Dare To" has soft, blurry pads that could very well be a recording of chants, a dance floor tool that builds piece-by-piece. You appreciate every small sound and change, which makes for absorbing techno.
