  • Through reissues, new music and edits, Mannequin's Alessandro Adriani has made it his life's work to connect minimal wave and other obscure genres to the club. He recently dug up a lost 1983 demo from Caroline K, the late cofounder of the unclassifiable Brixton group Nocturnal Emissions who released one insular solo LP, 1987's Now Wait For Last Year. Don't Believe It's Over, recorded four years prior, is far less sullen, falling somewhere between Suzanne Vega's "Tom's Diner" and impLOG's "Holland Tunnel Dive." The original and the dub blend primitive synths, pop nous and the space echo that wafted from Brixton's reggae shops to This Heat's Cold Storage studios. Adriani then turns the shambolic tune into a chugging banger, upping the tempo, looping the vocal and leaving the original's glorious blast of noise intact.
