- Timeless Detroit electro, reissued.
- If you play electro, you probably own a lot of Ectomorph tracks. And with good reason—unlike a lot of electro, BMG and Erika's style seduces by whispered suggestion rather than brute persuasion, which is why their music has aged so well. This second repress of 1995's Stark uses the original masters from the storied Midwest engineers Ron Murphy and Mark Richardson. (Mastering engineers are usually heard and not seen, so respect to Ectomorph for representing two vital behind-the-scenes contributors to dance music history.)
Unlike the original EP, the repress contains "Malfunction," which was originally released by Rephlex on a compilation EP in 1996 before being added to the first Stark repress in 1999. Despite being left off the original EP, "Malfunction" is one of Ectomorph's best dance floor tracks. (It replaced "Karmic Funk (Some Assembly Required)", which excels at gently freaking out afterparty crowds. It's a bonus track on the digital version here.) The rest of Stark is the stuff of electro legend. Ectomorph fans argue over whether "Silver" is better than "Satori." It is, but only just. (Sorry.) When the Great Book Of Electro is finally written, those two tunes will stand as Ectomorph's lesson to the modern fan.
