- Alien soundscapes from a producer who draws from science-fiction classics.
- Orphans is like a prequel to Elation, the six-part opera series Colin Self started in 2011. His music imagines alternative ways of living through the science-fiction inspired writing of authors like Donna Haraway and Ursula K. Le Guin. That might explain why the pitched and filtered vocal of "Polyvagal" sounds like a creepy alien tunnelling through pounding kick drums and a cosmic acid line. Planningtorock's remix of "Survival" supports Self's softly warped vocal in a way that's less physical but still rhythmic, using pieces from the original's strings to guide the rhythm. Sonically, "Once More" circles back to the first EP in the Elation series, with atmospheric pads and an acapella pulling the record away from the dance floor and into a daydream. It wraps up a short, sweet summary of Self's creative development.
