- The final track from Parisian duo Cassius is a soaring remix of a resistance anthem.
- The video for Fiorious's 2018 house hit "I'm Not Defeated" cuts together clips of LGBTQ+ resistance in the face of violence and abuse. Protesters are beaten and tear-gassed. Couples make out. One guy, legs hooked around his lover, flips the bird. Alongside the lyrics, which include lines like "See the blood upon my face," it's deeply moving stuff, now made even more so by the fact that it was the last track ever remixed (or produced) by the Parisian duo Cassius before last year's tragic passing of Philippe "Zdar" Cerboneschi.
In true Cassius style, their "XL Remix" is a feel-good smash, better even than the original. Fiorious's reverbed vocals haunt a funky house groove that eventually explodes into a fit of delicious piano chords, the kind that will seduce any dance floor. Things get a bit busy in the second half—the acid squiggles feel superfluous—but the energy can't be derailed. The lyrics elevate the track's power. One line, given the context, feels especially poignant: "I'm not erased."
