  • In his Rewind review of Fallout's The Morning After, Kirk Degiorgio transported us back to the orbital rave scene in the UK, bringing us out to the fields, through the night and to the party's emotional apex: sunrise tunes "that would have everyone hugging and raising a smile to the heavens." The Swedish producer Axel Boman has just released a modern track that would've been perfect for that moment. Boman's emotional deep house sound has always tugged at the heartstrings, but it's an unlikely sample that puts "Eyes Of My Mind" over the top. The vocal loop that leads and repeats is from an unknown (to these ears) version of "20/20 Vision," a country / bluegrass tune originally popularized by Gene Autry, then adopted by the likes of Jimmy Martin and Bob Dylan. "He should have examined the eyes of my mind / 20/20 vision and walkin' 'round blind"—lyrics like these take on a psychedelic resonance against Boman's warm, ambient house track. He also cleverly embeds the intro of the Cocteau Twins' brilliant "Pandora" into the gently propulsive cut, which is powered by an unobtrusive breakbeat. While the main version is prime outdoor festival tackle, the beatless "Echoes Of My Mind" might be a better look for the surfeit of home listening going on at the moment, a deep headphone trip in the style of early Orb. When Boman finished the initial sketch, he slung it over to his friend, the visual artist Malin Gabriella Nordin, who put it on loop and painted 455 works that will go on display at Stockholm's Steinsland Berliner gallery later this year. (The paintings are also the basis of a video and a limited magazine.) Nordin's burst of colour mirrors the life-affirming qualities of "Eyes Of My Mind," Boman's most memorable track to date.
