- Nelson Bandela, previously known as NorvisJr or Norvis Junior, is a New York-based artist with an eclectic style. His new record, the Black James Blake E.P., collects songs produced between 2014 and 2017, a time when he was consistently referred to as the "Black James Blake." Nelson Bandela has been recognised for his exploration into experimental R&B, spaced out hip-hop, funk and gospel sounds, and this project highlights his varied approach to making music.
"I'm Black" is an uplifting and celebratory number about the Black experience. "Jose" taps into his experimental side, characterised by echoed lyrics and loose melodic elements. The most recognisable feature in his music is his voice. Bandela sings in a way that places an emphasis on the welcoming nature of his productions. With his distinctive sound, evident in the closing track "Rashad Shall Reincarnate," Bandela creates pieces that are distorted yet still sound whole, making his music even more dynamic.
