You see it in collectives and labels that exist to solely push music within this realm, such as Saffron Records' recent week-long series of virtual workshops, or Foundation FM's predominant focus on women and LGTBQI+ people in radio. These initiatives have an immense impact on promising newcomers and a younger generation of artists, demonstrating that it's possible for them to succeed in this game, too. Bursting into this field is Club Queen Records, a label that aims to shine a light on incredible women in the club scene, encompassing Jersey club, Miami bass, house and much more.
Founded by TT The Artist, Baltimore's multi-talented club commander, Club Queen Records have created a name for themselves as a platform that not only focuses on the distribution of music produced by women, but serves to teach these individuals about the music business, too.
CQ2 is the highly anticipated follow-up to the label's debut EP, Club Queens Vol. 1. TT The Artist's distinct and instantly recognizable voice appears throughout CQ2, and there are features from established artists like UNiiQU3, Ash B. and Cookiee Kawaii. On "Sweat it Out," TT The Artist joins UNiiQU3 to present a perfect workout anthem, pumping with adrenaline and giving out excitable energy through its motivational lyrics and rapidfire drums. (It's slightly reminiscent of Byrell The Great's vibrant workout mix series.)
Club Queen Records also do well with acknowledging up-and-coming artists, with Mahogani Blair's sultry vocals on the catchy house tune, "Knock Yo Boots." As a whole, the mixture of Baltimore club, house and Miami bass sounds on CQ2 makes this release a fine example of the talented women that thrive in the club world.
