- Subtly psychedelic techno invoking '90s Motor City greats.
- Los Angeles producer Truncate makes nuts-and-bolts techno with a detail-oriented touch. His new EP for Token presents two versions of a track called "DTW 2 LAX"—whose title gives you a hint about where its loyalties lie—and while they aren't all that different at first glance, "V2" becomes just slightly off-kilter when you listen carefully. It's all about the offbeat interplay between the kick drum and the squiggly chords, which mutate and flatten throughout the track as if Truncate were squeezing them through a sieve. "DTW 2 LAX V2" balances a roots feel borrowed from Robert Hood's mid-'90s work with modern-day techno dynamics.
