  • In the early 2010s, the Munich label Permanent Vacation became one of those rare unicorns: an outlet with massive crossover appeal that didn't forego its underground bona fides. These were the years when the label was putting out watershed records from the likes of John Talabot and Mano Le Tough. And although the club music zeitgeist may have shifted, Permanent Vacation continues to release some of the best melodic dance music with a hint of oddball flair. Sara Miller's debut EP for them, Lunar Theory, is a case in point. Filled with melodies as complex as honeycomb, the EP also packs some low-end heft that'll keep the club pumping—whether it's the absolutely naughty acid line on "Voyage" or the Italo play of the drums on "Lunar Chase." Lunar Theory is a reminder that just because you're going big doesn't mean you can't stay weird.
